Timah Tasoh Western Bypass (TTWB), Perlis

Existing rivers have inadequate flood conveyance capacity and had caused frequent flooding to state capital city Kangar.  TTWB is a dedicated 22.5km length flood bypass to divert excessive floodwater from Timah Tasoh Dam directly to Straits of Melaka.  A total of 17 design options were evaluated to determine the best option between flood & irrigation demands, social acceptance, environment impact, O&M vulnerability including future potentials for value-adding. 

The project involves construction of flood channel, bridges, roads, irrigation structures, tidal barrage, coastal outlet and a 756m long tunnel through karstic limestone at Kampung Tebing Tinggi. TTWB has successfully alleviate the flooding risk at Kangar.  It also supporting the irrigation demand for better paddy growth.  Currently, it has become a new tourist attraction at Perlis.
